Technical Documentation and Courseware Development

May 2011

Strengthening economy helping drive demand for technical documentation and courseware development

Many companies took drastic steps to weather the economic downturn.  A common strategy was to cut documentation staff as a way to reduce costs and protect profit margins.  Now that the economy is picking up, these same companies are trying to cope with the increased demand for documentation and courseware development as new products are developed and launched to support renewed growth and demand.

Full service technical documentation and courseware development service providers, including InfoPros, benefit by this uptick in demand.  InfoPros finished 2010 strong.  The company reported revenue growth of 13% and the 2011 outlook is even stronger.  “Our growth is being driven by new clients looking to outsource their documentation and courseware development needs in lieu of adding the fixed costs and headcount of rehiring an in-house department,” according to Bernie Schneider, InfoPros president.

In addition, InfoPros saw an increase in the number of imported products requiring documentation improvements to better serve the U.S. market.  “In 2010, we began working with several China-based companies on this type of work,” Schneider said.

The company expects 2011 revenue growth to significantly outpace 2010, led by continued client acquisition and a broader improvement of existing customers' underlying business as the economy strengthens.

InfoPros has recently added staff at several of its offices to support the growth and expects additional hires in the second quarter of this year.  The company recently announced that it has named Patricia Shepherd to the newly-created position of company Controller.  Ms. Shepherd will be responsible for all accounting functions as well as HR and other administrative services.

Technology enhancements to support InfoPros’ growth is an important part of its commitment to providing the tools and resources that are an integral part of creating The InfoPros Advantage -- experienced employees, proven process and continued investment in tools and IT infrastructure.

Network upgrade improvements have increased speed, efficiency and data security.  InfoPros doubled its network bandwidth, strengthened network security and added MPLS data routing technology to support rapid movement of ever-larger client content.  This allows the company to continue to provide the quick turnaround, efficiencies of scale and system integrity for which it is known.  “For example, InfoPros can now reduce project turnaround times even further, taking days out of the process by shipping extremely large files electronically versus shipping disks via overnight mail,” Schneider said.

Additionally, InfoPros added live chat to the communications options offered via its website.  Adding live chat to InfoPros’ home page allows it to engage in more conversations with companies and provide more communication options.  Companies now have real-time access to quickly get questions answered.

As the continued economic recovery fuels growth and increases demand for documentation and courseware services, companies such as InfoPros can offer a cost-effective and flexible solution for companies looking to support that growth.
