Case Study: Caltrans WBT Development

Challenge

Caltrans needed to develop project management training courses for senior management employees statewide. The training had to hold the interest of senior management, be interactive, and be accessible 24 hours a day. Caltrans chose InfoPros to create a unified and appealing set of courses that made learning fun and easy.

Solution

InfoPros produced a Web-based training (WBT) solution that includes multiple opportunities for interaction, such as "what if" scenarios, informal quizzes providing helpful hints and pointers back to related content, audio voice-overs, and animated graphics. Interaction is a key tool for reinforcing learning concepts, so we used it as often as possible. The training is presented through a series of interesting articles, interviews, quizzes, and interactive exercises. Interactive Flash exercises make learning fun and provide students with an engaging experience not possible with traditional training videos or documentation. The content is presented through recognizable themes and real-life scenarios, which help to draw in the learner and aid problem solving.

Result

This accessible multimedia solution uses solid instructional design principles to deliver a training solution that meets the needs of senior Caltrans employees statewide. The polished courses present the content in an engaging fashion while providing the learners with multiple opportunities to put their learning to use. In addition, student travel time, travel budgets, and instructor costs have been reduced.
